Back on the bike

After a few too many months off, due to illness and being away from home, I’m back on my bike again, and it feels good!

I live in a neighborhood that has just enough flat land to make it enjoyable to ride a bike, and just enough hills to make it a challenge.

I prefer the downhill side of the hills, but I can’t enjoy those until I reach the top of the hill.

Sometimes, it’s a quiet grind to the top.  Other times, it’s a noisy, whiny gripe to the top!  I find myself saying things like…”Why am I doing this?  Whose crazy idea was it to do this?  I can’t do this!

Oh, but I can!!

And every time I reach the top of the hill, I say to myself…”Hey! that wasn’t so bad! I made it!”

I can do this!

I pause at the top of the hill, catch my breath, take a drink of water.

Then with absolute confidence and resolve, I fly down the hill, exhilarated and ready to take on the next hill as it arrives.

I think riding a bike might just be a little bit like my life.

Some days I just cruise through it. Easy. No sweat. Other days, it’s an uphill climb, not so easy, and lots of sweat!

I get tired, and I want to quit. I tell myself that I can’t do this, it’s too hard, and I’m pretty sure I’m just plain crazy!

But….I can do this!

And when I get to the end of a tough day, just like on my bike ride, I pause, catch my breath, and get refreshed.

I reflect on the good, and try to learn from the bad.

And then…I go on.  With confidence and resolve in my step, ready to take on the next day as it comes.

Weekly photo challenge: culture

Tourism…an intregal part of the culture where I live.

Thankful Thursday: A gift cloth, steel, wood

Today I am looking for a gift of cloth, steel, and wood….and since I’m visiting one of my favorite little people, of course I will have to include a picture of him!

1. A gift of cloth…a favorite stuffed animal named Harold. Very well loved by one little guy!

2. The steel structure at the playground makes for a great adventure for little boys…and girls too!

3. Taking a walk on a wood pier on a beautiful day!

Just a few of the many things that I am so very thankful for today.

What are you thankful for?

Will you join me in looking for these gifts and sharing them with others?

Up before the sun!

It was a very early morning wake-up call for me today. And now, I’m off on another adventure!

I’m taking this trip by train. A mode of travel I really enjoy!

It’s easy. It’s relaxing. Its an opportunity to see the world from another vantage point.

It’s not nearly as stressful as air travel can be at times, although it’s not nearly as fast either!

But that’s ok.

I’m just soaking up life along the way. Looking forward to the smiling faces that will greet me when I reach my destination!

Hit the pause button

It can be a very busy world.  At least where I live anyway.

But I really like the idea of just being able to hit the pause button, and sit back and enjoy life in the moment.

I want to be able to soak it up.

Store it away in my memory bank, and save it for a moment, or a day when I need a little boost to take me to the next step.

Pause.  Reflect.  Record.

Remember the pursuit.

My big brother

He’s my big brother, and my only one!

He came to visit me from Arizona – stayed for a few days, and is on his way home today.

My big bro

We enjoyed some good food, and watched a few good baseball games together.  My team actually won 2 games in a row!

Relaxed a lot, shared memories of the “good old days“, and made a few new ones together.

I will have to admit, being his little sister as an adult, is so much better than being his little sister as a kid!

Nothing bad, just the typical annoying little sister thing.  Hopefully, I don’t annoy him as much anymore – and if I do, well, he doesn’t let me know!

He’s a good big brother, and I’m glad he’s mine!

Give your best

If I am ever in doubt as to what I should do….it would be good to keep this in mind.
