Today is the day….

Good words to live by today, and every day.

Today will never come again

Weekly Photo Challenge: The Golden Hour

You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.

Just don’t worry about it

Just don’t worry about it“. My  7-year-old grandson will say this to me from time to time.

I’m pretty sure he isn’t saying it with this quote in mind, but more in the context of “just leave me alone“!

But then again, he is pretty smart, and the words he says are so true.

It just doesn’t do any good to worry about anything.

I think I’ll still keep my eyes on my grandson though.  He may be pretty smart, but he can’t fool me…yet! 🙂

Thankful Thursday: 3 gifts in jars

3 gifts in jars…

1. The seashells in this jar are a great reminder to me of vacations spent with my family playing at the beach and in the ocean.  I’m so thankful for those special memories.

2. The scented wax warms gently in this jar, and brings a pleasant aroma to my home. I’m thankful for how easy it easy to make my house smell like fresh baked cookies! 🙂

3. Leaving the best for last…peanut butter in a jar.  An all-time favorite at our house. Goes great with apples! If you have never tried it, you should! I’m really thankful I did!

These are just a few of the many things that I am so very thankful for today.

What are you thankful for?

Will you join me in looking for these gifts and sharing them with others?

Have a wonderful “Thankful Thursday“!

A Word a Week Challenge: Distant

Not far in the distance stands this solitary tree.  It has been named, Lone Cypress.

A very old tree that has stood the test of time and weather, and has become a well-known landmark in this part of the world!

It also just happens to be one of the most photographed spots along the West Coast!

Memories of the library

I love to read, and as a kid I loved going to my school library.

I came across this little bookstore in Monterey CA.

When I stepped in the door, I was immediately taken back in time to the days I spent as a child perusing my school library. From that very distinct smell of the books, to the sight of those nifty little round step stools!

For some reason, I always thought those step stools were so very clever and cool!  I’m not sure why I thought they were so cool, but I just did.

Simple pleasures, I guess.

Back then, I could, (and would), sit and read for hours!

Getting lost in the stories, dreaming of my own adventures. I would always check out the maximum number of books that was allowed at each visit, and I never shied away from the books with lots of pages.  Sometimes, I would even try to find the books with the most pages in them!

I lived vicariously through Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Little House on the Prairie books. My imagination soared when I read all of the Oz books, beginning with the Wizard of Oz. And I was fascinated by the adventures of the little girl in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

These are just a few of the books that were stand-outs to me as a kid. Books I still think about today, and might even go back and re-read….some day.

Maybe, but…there are so many other books to read!

My eyes just won’t stay open for as long as they used to when I was a kid, so it takes just a little bit longer to get through a book!

But I still enjoy it, and strangely enough, I still look for the really long books to read.

So many books, just not enough time!

Or is it more like, so many books…just can’t keep my eyes open!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

My two older sisters have both passed away in the last few years.

I miss them so very much!

Kristy and Debbie

I have become a Grandma three times over since then, and their children have each had babies since they have passed away.

Being a Grandma and being nostalgic just seem to go hand-in-hand 🙂

Lately I have found myself becoming a little nostalgic and wistful as I watch their grand babies grow.

My sisters were amazing moms.  I just know they would have loved being Grandmas to these sweet little girls….

A Word a Week Challenge: Boat

The word for this week is: boat

A very intriguing old boat, just hanging out in a mysterious fog in Morro Bay.

Messed-up memories

So that was strange.  A few days a go, I saw someone who I used to work with at my previous place of employment.

As I saw her pass by, I knew I wanted to talk to her, and find out how she was doing.  It had been a long time since I had last seen her, and she didn’t really leave on the best of terms.

It was awkward, and I was hesitant at first, but my curiosity took over.  I decided to take the chance and go talk to her.  I really didn’t have anything to lose!

It was interesting.  I listened as she shared her story, and told me of the difficulties she had gone through since that day.

We both had bad experiences to share from our previous employer. Hers, probably worse than mine.  Her position was of a much higher pay grade, but still, the painful memories were stirred up once again.

For both of us.

We assured each other that we had moved on and were getting over it.

But were we?

The painful experience that I thought was in the past, still found a way to make my sleep a little restless that night.

Thankfully, it didn’t last for long.

In the morning, when I woke up and realized I wasn’t going back to work there ever again…well,my life just got a whole lot better…again!

The memories are still a little messed-up at times, but my life now, well, it’s not messed up at all.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable

Companionablepossessing the qualities of a good companion, one who is pleasant to be with.

And who is that companionable person in my life?

Well, the only person that comes to my mind when I think of who this could be…is this guy!

He is my husband.  The love of my life!

my boyfriend

He is my true and faithful companion.  He is my very best friend.

I have been so blessed to have spent 33 + years with him.  I can’t imagine my life without him, so I try not to.

Time spent with him, is pleasant indeed!
