I’m sitting at the table with my 5-year-old granddaughter watching her paint a picture, when my mind takes a leave of absence, and I decide I’m going to tell her a joke!
Now for anyone who has ever told a kid a joke before, you know that you must be prepared for, well…failure.
So in my absent state of mind, I proceed to tell her the only joke I can remember the punch line for.
Me: Knock, knock
Her: Who’s there
Me: Boo
Her: Boo who
Me: Boo who!! Why are you crying? π
Her: That’s not funny grandma. π¦
Hmmm. I guess I won’t be telling that one again!
But before you leave disappointed with the bad joke as well….she let me know that she had a “good joke” for me!
Are you ready for this?
Her: So Grandma, what do you call a princess that takes all day long to clean her room?
Me: I don’t know. What do you call her?
Her: You call her “Slow White“! Get it Grandma? I changed “Snow” to “Slow” to make it funny!! (at which she begins to laugh uproariously!)
Me: Oh I get it! π That’s a good one! You are soooo funny!
Because that’s what Grandma’s do. Β They laugh at their grandkids jokes.
All of them!
Oh this made me laugh, especially the comment about being prepared for failure when telling jokes to kids. π
It’s true though, right? π I didn’t even get a “courtesy” laugh from her. It was a complete bomb! Ha! Oh well…her’s made up for mine!
She had a good one! My kids jokes usually go something like this:
Knock knock
who’s there
ummmm…..carrot
carrot who
Carrot on your head
Then they laugh uproariously because that’s what you do at the end of a joke. Or maybe because vegetables on heads are funny? Maybe it’s me who doesn’t get it! π
Oh it’s you, you just don’t get it π Your little girls are a riot!! I’m pretty sure veggies on your head are just downright hilarious!
If they only knew, most of the time, what they say without trying to be funny, is a lot funnier than any joke they could ever come up with! But I guess we gotta give them an “A” for trying, and….laughing is a lot easier to listen to than crying, that’s for sure!
Ha! But her joke is really funny, and she made it up herself. π
Yes it was! Certainly better than mine, that’s for sure! She was quite proud of that one, I thought it was pretty funny too! π
