February Delivery- 71 Children Hats

Another special delivery…this is so awesome!

Knitting Rays of Hope

71hats

We just mailed out 71 hats to the pediatric oncology center at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach.  We are so grateful to have such a dedicated team that continually makes hats to spread hope and show support, making this shipment happen.  Since the holidays, we have been extremely busy, from planning  2 big events, the flu and its relapses, children breaking bones/teeth and work, we haven’t really been able to loom knit or blog at our usual pace.  We hope to get back to our usual pace now that things have settled down a little.

Thankful Thursday: a gift dull, shimmering and cleaned

A gift dull, shimmering and cleaned

1. It’s a little hard to find something “dull” that I am actually thankful for.  I did however find something that was dull, and at this very moment I was thankful that it was turned upside down and on the ground!

It was very hard to be thankful for this, at least for me anyway.  I guess the golfers are probably the only ones that are truly thankful for this. 🙂

2.  I found myself in complete awe on this day…..surrounded by God’s handiwork.  The setting sun, the light shimmering on the sand and the water…the opportunity to live so close and see this beauty is a gift I am so very thankful for.

3.  And…I am so thankful for this…the rain that has finally come today to clean the air, feed the plants and the grass, and give us the water that we so desperately need.

These are just a few of the many things that I am thankful for today. It’s important to stop…take a moment…and reflect on the good things in life.

Wordless Wednesday: So Close!

The “terrific twos”!

People often like to refer to this stage in life as the “terrible twos“.

I will not.  I dislike this label, and will never use it when referring to a two-year old child.

Oh sure, they can have their moments, but let’s be honest, we all do from time to time.

A two-year old is curious.  They are expressive, and yes, they are challenging.  They are learning, and they are sponges…and like a sponge, they are soaking in everything that is sent their way.

But what they are not, is terrible.  I think that they are amazing!

Just think about what is going on.  They have learned the major skills of walking, running and climbing, and now they are in the process of fine tuning those skills, as well as working on their fine motor skills.

They have gone from being totally dependent, to a limited form of independence. They are able to move around and do things on their own.  More importantly, and I think probably one of the most amazing things that they are doing, is learning to communicate with words!

Think about the freedom this brings! Who wouldn’t get a little crazy once in a while?

It really is pretty exciting when you stop and think about it, and I think that’s probably what every healthy two-year old child is doing.

Expressing their excitement in their new-found freedom! It’s time to do the “happy dance”!

Yes, it can be frustrating when we don’t understand them, and when they don’t understand us. But when he looks up in to my eyes, and reaches out his hand to me and says “hold hand“, my heart simply melts.

In moments like this, and in so many others, I’m reminded just how special this little life is, and that it really is…”terrific to be two”!

Thankful Thursday: 3 gifts in shadows

3 gifts in shadows

1.  These moments…I’m so thankful for the opportunity to sit and relax with my very best friend…enjoy a cup of coffee…and watch as our shadows are cast for us to see, just how close we really are.  I am so thankful for this amazing guy!

2.  I’m so thankful for the ability to see! To see the joy and the wonder of this moment.  The moment when this “little big guy” watches as his shadow moves when he does, and mimics his every action.

3. The long afternoon shadows, and the “littlest guy”walking hand-in-hand with his Grandpa. I’m thankful that we live just close enough to make these visits possible on a regular basis.

This…well, they just make my heart melt.

Wordless Wednesday: Just kickin’ back…

me and my best friend

Oh these days!

These glorious days!

I still can’t get use to them!

La Jolla

These are the days that I would dream about when I was sitting in my cubicle at my desk.

Looking out the window and just longing to be…out…there!

Out where my feet could be free. Out where I could enjoy the warmth of the sun on my back.  But more importantly, out where I could just kick back with my very best friend.

La Jolla Cove

Yep! These are some glorious days! The days that are no longer a dream, but my reality.

This is my amazing life!
