Weekly Photo Challenge: Contrasts

In contrast to so many other players of the game today, Tony Gwynn played his entire twenty year career for one team…the San Diego Padres.

However, there were no contrasts to this man’s game…he was simply one of the very best baseball players in my lifetime.

He was, and always will be “Mr. Padre”.

Tony Gwynn – (May 9, 1960 – June 16, 2014)

His endeavors on the field with a .338 career batting average, 5 gold gloves & 8 batting titles, were only surpassed by his greatness as a genuine good person.

Another good guy gone too soon.

Thankful Thursday: 3 Gifts Funny

3 Gifts Funny

1.  I’m thankful for the this little guy, who thought it was oh so funny to hang upside down on my lap and look at me. The look on his face was great, but the sound of his little belly laugh…now that was even better.

2. I’m thankful for time spent with these two, and the joy of entertaining them with something as simple as these funny little mustache straws. Their eyes might not show it, but they really were happy to have these cool straws, it’s just that they were concentrating super hard, trying to make it look like they were “real”.

3.  And then, there are moments like this…I’m sure there is something to be thankful about here, maybe it’s that I’m not the one that has to wear this funny costume?!?

I think that would certainly qualify as something I can be very thankful for.

That’s it for today…like always, these are just a few of the so many things that I am very thankful for on this Thankful Thursday.

And you? Have you looked for something to be thankful for today? 🙂

ABC’s of Genuine Happiness – “C” Create Something Exciting

My blogging friend Monique has challenged us to the ABC’s of Genuine Happiness.

I’ve missed out on “A” and “B”, but I think I can contribute to the letter “C”….Create Something Exciting.

Well, I don’t really consider myself to be much of a creative person.  I have dreams of being creative, but I’m not usually the one to come up with the creative ideas.  However, I can follow a pattern or a recipe pretty well, and because of that, I have been able to create some pretty exciting things.

My latest “creation” was an attempt at knitting hats on a round loom.  I was introduced to this idea from another blogging friend at “Knitting Rays of Hope“.  They are a great group of people who make and collect hats to distribute to babies in NICU, and children and adults with cancer.

So, in my attempt to “create something exciting”…these are just a few of the hats that I have made.

loved the idea of being a part of something much bigger than myself, and maybe, just maybe helping out a little bit too.

And yes…it makes me happy.

Happy to create, and happy to help…appears to be a pretty good combination.

Thanks Monique for the challenge. I’m looking forward to the letter “D”!

Thankful Thursday: A gift of peace, of hope, of love

It’s another “Thankful Thursday”, and it’s a beautiful one at my house.  There is always, always something to be thankful for…and I’m always looking!

Today, I’m looking for a  gift of peace, of hope, of love…

1. I’m so thankful for the gift of peace that I find when I spend time in this little place I call my “secret garden”.

It keeps me busy, it’s challenging, and probably keeps me from going a little bit crazy too!

2.  And I am so thankful for the hope I have in heaven, and the joy of being reunited with these three once again.  My two sisters, and my Dad. All three taken from this world much too soon.  All three, missed dearly for oh so many reasons.

Some days, just a little bit more than others, but always missed.

3. And the greatest of these is love…I’m very thankful for this guy. He is the love of my life, my husband, and my very best friend. I can’t imagine my life without him, I don’t even like to let my brain go there.

I am so thankful, for his love for me…I am truly blessed.

My best friend

These are just a few of the things that I am so very thankful for today. My heart is full of “good things”.

How about you? Take a moment, reflect on your day, and look for the good things, and if you feel inclined to share, I would love to hear what they are!

Until then, keep looking for the good things…they are out there. I promise.

Life is not just about the good things or not just about the bad things. It is both. It all depends where you focus your attention.” ~ Ann Marie Aguilar

Weekly Photo Challenge: Room

Now this is a room that I hope to never find myself in.
SD County Jail

Ever.

These particular rooms can be found at the headquarters for the old San Diego Police Department.  There was a time when they were well occupied, now they are only used for display in the museum.

I understand and am well aware of the fact that there are newer “models”out there.

I plan on keeping my distance from those rooms as well. 🙂

So far…so good!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Split Second Story

This week’s challenge was to capture a moment, person, place or thing, that tells a story….

It only took a “split second” for this to happen…

broken cup

And when it did, not only did the cup break, but my heart broke just a little too.

A special gift, from a special person.  My daughter.

Gone, in just a split second.
