Check another state off my list!

Well, it looks like I get to check another state off my list of “states I have been too“!  I’m pretty excited about this!  It’s been awhile since we have been to another state, and it’s even more exciting to be able to check another state off my list!

We’re going to Florida!  Miami to be exact.

Florida

Part business, part pleasure, but always fun when I get to be with my best friend!

The flight and car reservations have been made, now for the fun part, finding a nice hotel.

So, I thought to myself, hmmmm…I wonder, would any of my blogging friends be willing to recommend a nice hotel to stay in while in the Miami area?

I’ll be doing my research online, but I’m open to some wonderful suggestions!

Oh, and if you have any tips on things to see or do while I’m there, I would be interested in hearing about that too!  We are only going to be there for a few days, but I’m curious to hear what the “must-do” thing would be while visiting Florida!

Up before the sun!

It was a very early morning wake-up call for me today. And now, I’m off on another adventure!

I’m taking this trip by train. A mode of travel I really enjoy!

It’s easy. It’s relaxing. Its an opportunity to see the world from another vantage point.

It’s not nearly as stressful as air travel can be at times, although it’s not nearly as fast either!

But that’s ok.

I’m just soaking up life along the way. Looking forward to the smiling faces that will greet me when I reach my destination!

The good part is home

After spending much of the month of February away from home, it’s good to be back.

It’s taking me awhile to get back into the routine of everyday life at home, but it still feels good to be here!

I finally made it to the grocery store, and have food in my refrigerator again, however, my laundry pile is still a little too high for my liking. Definitely on my list of things to do for this afternoon.

Part of this most recent trip was for business, and part of it was to visit with family and friends.  It was good to see everyone again, catch up on life events, and make new memories.

I was also able to go to Ft McHenry in Baltimore MD.  I walked around inside the Fort best known for the War of 1812 and the birthplace of our national anthem.

Ft McHenry

Once again I was inspired by the bravery and commitment that so many people made during that war to protect this country.

I am thankful for the opportunities afforded to me because of the sacrifices of so many.

I am humbled by their fierce desire to protect, and I know that it was because of that desire, I am able to enjoy my home, sweet home….today.

Thankful Thursday: one day late

I’m thankful that I can get warm, when it’s oh so cold outside!!

Traveling with my best friend

I have found that blogging while traveling can be a bit of a challenge at times.

However, traveling with my best friend is well worth any of those minor challenges!

As we set out to explore what’s in store for us today, I am once again reminded how blessed I am to have such an awesome husband and friend.

I’d like to think of us as the couple in the middle of those pictures…

I just like being together 🙂

What happens in Vegas…stays in Vegas

At least that’s how the saying goes. I didn’t do anything in Vegas that I couldn’t bring home with me, but it was an interesting experience that’s for sure.

I joined my husband on a business trip. My first time to Las Vegas since I was a kid!

He worked.  I explored!

And if I were a gambling person, which I’m not, this would not have been my week-end.

It started with disappointing results at a long-awaited restaurant.  I’ve wanted to go to this restaurant for years, and lets just say, it’s going to be hard for me to give it a second shot.

That was strike one.

Strike two came the next day, when I ventured out to another restaurant.  One that had been recommended to me by a friend. Unfortunately, the results at that restaurant were less than desirable as well, although I may be willing to give this one another try.

And the final strike was on the last day.

A much-needed pedicure was cancelled by the spa. 😦 Oh, but I was comped the daily fee for the use of the spa facilities. And yes, I took advantage of this offer.

3 strikes and I’m out!

It wasn’t all bad though.

My hotel was great! I got to meet Taylor Hicks, and hear him in concert! The people watching was spectacular! The water show at the Bellagio was beautiful!  I even witnessed a couple getting married right there on the sidewalk in front of the hotel!

The Bellagio at night

It was fascinating. Bigger than life. Much brighter than home, but certainly not home!

It was another great adventure with my best friend! 🙂

Look out my window!

This is what I saw when I woke up today!
It’s a little mesmerizing.

And this was from last night!

It’s also quite mesmerizing!

More adventures today!

More stories later! 🙂

Good Stuff Eatery

The last time I went to Washington DC, I ate at this little place called “Good Stuff Eatery“.  Oh my, was it good!

Farmhouses
It took us a little while to find the place.  It was dark, it was unfamiliar territory, it was downtown Washington DC!

But, we were determined to eat at a place that was unique to the city we were in!  It’s a goal of ours to eat at local restaurants when travelling, and we try to avoid chain restaurants.

So, after negotiating the crazy streets, and finding a place to park, we ventured out to see what we would find!

What we found was a funky little place, offering burgers and shakes. But not just your ordinary, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shake!

Amazing names like, Toasted Marshmallow, Milky Way Malt, Black & White, Salty Caramel Kiss, just to name a few.

With names like that, I just had to give this place a try.

So I placed my order.  A ‘SHROOM BURGER – Muenster & Cheddar stuffed Portobello Tops, Flash Fried With Panko Crumbs, Tomatoes, Onions, Lettuce & Pickle With Good Stuff Sauce.

Oh yeah!

And when the menu basically only has two items on it…I decided I probably should try the other item they were offering.

A hand spun shake.  My choice was the Salty Caramel Kiss.

And oh, it was so delicious!  I can’t even begin to describe how good the shake was!  The burger was gone in a flash, but the shake was something that needed to be savored.

I’m ready to go back to DC, just for the shake!  The burger was delightful, the shake….amazing!

It was another good adventure with my very best friend 🙂

On the road again…

And I’m off! On my way to see this little guy walk in person!

Rick playing with cars

I’ve seen it on video, and now I get to see the real thing! I can hardly wait!

Looking forward to a good week-end with my daughter, son-in-law and that amazing little grand son!

What would you do?

Adventures in travel can often include life lessons.

I would like to think that I would have made a different choice if I were in this same situation….

A crowded plane, with only the middle seats available. A young father with dreads down to the middle of his back and a dirty bandana on his head. Two studs in his bottom lip, a worn out backpack on his back, and a cute little baby in one arm who appears to be about a year old. In his other arm, he holds a sippy cup and a little kids book. He obviously has his hands full, and he also looks a little weary.

He walks up and down the aisle looking for a seat. No one is moving, no one is making eye contact. All that is available are the middle seats. He finally picks a seat. Points to the middle seat, and starts to move in. The lady on the aisle, stand up, rolls her eyes, and waits rather impatiently as the man tries to manipulate his way into the tight space with his baby in his arms.

No one offers to move, no one offers to assist him. He quietly excuses himself and settles in to the middle seat.

I’m watching helplessly from a few rows back, stuck in the middle seat myself. Desperately wishing there was something I could do to help him.

Seriously hoping that given the same situation, I would have moved to the middle seat, and let the dad have the aisle seat.
