Memories of the library

I love to read, and as a kid I loved going to my school library.

I came across this little bookstore in Monterey CA.

When I stepped in the door, I was immediately taken back in time to the days I spent as a child perusing my school library. From that very distinct smell of the books, to the sight of those nifty little round step stools!

For some reason, I always thought those step stools were so very clever and cool!  I’m not sure why I thought they were so cool, but I just did.

Simple pleasures, I guess.

Back then, I could, (and would), sit and read for hours!

Getting lost in the stories, dreaming of my own adventures. I would always check out the maximum number of books that was allowed at each visit, and I never shied away from the books with lots of pages.  Sometimes, I would even try to find the books with the most pages in them!

I lived vicariously through Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Little House on the Prairie books. My imagination soared when I read all of the Oz books, beginning with the Wizard of Oz. And I was fascinated by the adventures of the little girl in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

These are just a few of the books that were stand-outs to me as a kid. Books I still think about today, and might even go back and re-read….some day.

Maybe, but…there are so many other books to read!

My eyes just won’t stay open for as long as they used to when I was a kid, so it takes just a little bit longer to get through a book!

But I still enjoy it, and strangely enough, I still look for the really long books to read.

So many books, just not enough time!

Or is it more like, so many books…just can’t keep my eyes open!

There are a lot of bad things in this world, but there are a lot of good things too.  I would love to hear more about the good things.

Will you join me in looking for these gifts and sharing them with others?

“Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.”

I hope you have a wonderful “Thankful Thursday!”

Thankful Thursday: A gift sour, sweet, just right

1. A lemon from my tree. I have waited so long for them to turn yellow, and they finally did! This is the first one I picked. It’s just the perfect kind of sour.

2. A sweet gift for a sweet little girl! She loves her food, and ice cream and chocolate top the list!

3. Just right! A delicious latte served with “love”. Ahhh…now all I need is a good book!

Weekly photo challenge: resolved

I am resolved to read more books this year.

Probably not a library full, but I am off to a good start.  I’m half-way through my first book of this year!

Looking for a few good books

I just finished reading a really good book.  The title of the book is “The Secret Keeper” by, Kate Morton.

It’s a novel filled with mystery, suspense, and love.

The characters in the book are very well-developed by the author. Even when I wasn’t reading the book, I would often find myself thinking about them. Wondering what would happen to them next, and trying to figure out why they were doing what they were doing!

There are several twists and turns throughout the book, and the ending actually surprised me!  I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I was sad to have it end.

I always have mixed emotions when I get to the end of a book. I have a sense of accomplishment because I finished it, but then I have the daunting task of searching for another good book to read.

I think this just about sums it up for me….

Start a new book

However, I won’t let this stop me for too long.  And I will find another good book to read. My love for reading is just too great to keep me away from another adventure.

So now I’m off … in search of a few good books!

When the rain comes down

I am on another adventure with my best friend.

Today, the weather forecasters got it right, and it’s raining.

I don’t mind.

I had my breakfast cooked for me, and my coffee was hot and oh so good.

While I was enjoying my breakfast, my room was cleaned, and my bed was made for me.

Now, I am relaxing by the fire, enjoying the peace and quiet. Watching the rain fall softly outside my room.

It’s a beautiful day. A perfect day for reading a good book.
