Back on the bike

After a few too many months off, due to illness and being away from home, I’m back on my bike again, and it feels good!

I live in a neighborhood that has just enough flat land to make it enjoyable to ride a bike, and just enough hills to make it a challenge.

I prefer the downhill side of the hills, but I can’t enjoy those until I reach the top of the hill.

Sometimes, it’s a quiet grind to the top.  Other times, it’s a noisy, whiny gripe to the top!  I find myself saying things like…”Why am I doing this?  Whose crazy idea was it to do this?  I can’t do this!

Oh, but I can!!

And every time I reach the top of the hill, I say to myself…”Hey! that wasn’t so bad! I made it!”

I can do this!

I pause at the top of the hill, catch my breath, take a drink of water.

Then with absolute confidence and resolve, I fly down the hill, exhilarated and ready to take on the next hill as it arrives.

I think riding a bike might just be a little bit like my life.

Some days I just cruise through it. Easy. No sweat. Other days, it’s an uphill climb, not so easy, and lots of sweat!

I get tired, and I want to quit. I tell myself that I can’t do this, it’s too hard, and I’m pretty sure I’m just plain crazy!

But….I can do this!

And when I get to the end of a tough day, just like on my bike ride, I pause, catch my breath, and get refreshed.

I reflect on the good, and try to learn from the bad.

And then…I go on.  With confidence and resolve in my step, ready to take on the next day as it comes.

Me and my blog

My blog and I have been together for a little over a year now.  I was thinking about it yesterday, and wondering just what it is that keeps me coming back.

Why am I doing this?

And as I thought about it, I came up with a few reasons why I blog.

1. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and confidence.  It’s little, but it’s fun, and I did it! 🙂

2. It really is a “world-wide web“!  I’m “meeting” people from all over the world!  Places I will probably never get to go to in person.

3. I’m getting to explore the world through the eyes of other people. I am fascinated by some of the amazing photos I’ve seen!  There are some great photographers in this world.

4. I’m learning new things, and learning is always good.

5. It can be a challenge sometimes, and it makes me stretch into unknown territory.  This is good too!

6. It gives me goals to pursue and attain.

7. It’s fun, and I enjoy it, and I hope it stays that way.

8. It gives me an opportunity to share my little world with the great big world.  And honestly, I would never stand up in front of a room and talk, so this is the only way for me.

9. It gives me hope.  There are a lot of really nice people in this world, doing really great things.

10. And, maybe, just maybe….I will be able to encourage someone else along the way.

blogging in my sleep

I thought of something to write about as I was falling to sleep.  It was perfect!  I knew for sure that when I woke up this morning, I would be able to sit down at the computer, and type it all out in record-breaking time.

Well, things don’t always work out like I plan.  I have no idea what I was thinking about last night, and I’m sure that what I am writing right now, has nothing to do with my previous thoughts.

However….

I saw someone from my past today, and I was once again reminded of a choice that I made a little over a year a go, and I am so thankful that I took that step and made the choice to move in a new direction!

The choice to leave a job that I had for over seventeen and a half years!

Dr. Seuss quote

It was scary in the beginning, and I wasn’t sure where I was going, even now there are times when it’s all a little foreign to me, but I am confident of my decision, and I have no regrets.

Like the quote says, I have brains in my head!

And with the love and support from my husband, (who is my very best friend), I am more confident today of who I am and where I am going, than I have been in a very, long time.
